Production OHD Border Modes

This article explains two ways the Production OHD border can be configured to operate on manufacturing and back end assembly lines: "Line Status" border mode and "Machine Error" border mode. "Line Status" border mode is the default mode that Arch Systems recommends. "Machine Error" border mode is an available alternative mode. "Line Status" Border Mode: Border Red When Line is Down (Default)

When deployed on manufacturing or back-end assembly lines, ArchFX React's primary mission is to detect when the line is down. Therefore, by default, Production OHD will operate as follows:

• The status panel shows the state of the line: running, idle, scheduled downtime, or unscheduled downtime. As soon as the line enters the down state, the status panel will turn red (showing Unknown Downtime), and the border of the Production OHD will blink red.
• Individual machines will turn red when they are in an error state. This behavior is independent of the line state. A machine can be in an error state briefly without causing the whole line to stop, and the line can be down without any machine signaling an error code.

"Machine Error" Border Mode : Border Red When Machine is in Error State Longer than "Grace Period" Allows

Some customers prefer to have the Production OHD border notify the operator that one or more machines are in error states, possibly after a "grace period" has been exceeded. For such customers, Production OHD will operate as follows:

• When no machine is in an error state and the line is running, the border will be solid green.
• When no machine is in an error state and the line is idle, the border will be solid yellow.
• When a machine enters an error state, the border will change from its current color to solid red.
• The customer can specify a "Grace Period," which is the length of time a machine can be in the error state before the Production OHD border will begin blinking red. This value is defined as a multiple of the line's target takt time.
  • The customer can set this value to 0 to have the Production OHD border blink red as soon as any machine enters an error state.
  • But more commonly, the "grace period" is set to a value such as 2, which means that when a machine has been in an error state for a length of time equal to two times the current target takt time, the Production OHD border will begin blinking red.
• As always, the status panel will continue to show whether the line as a whole is running, idle, or down based on the pacemaker machine's monitoring.
