What does disabling a Line or Area do?
Disabling a Line or Area removes it from the count of tracked Lines or Areas and causes any activity on the Line or Area not to be counted in statistics for Throughput, Utilization, etc.
Why would I disable a Line or Area?
Companies usually disable a Line or Area when the it is being taking out of service for an extended period of time (typically at least a week) for planned maintenance or reconfiguration and they don't want the it to be counted in their Utilization statistics.
Who can enable or disable a Line/Area?
Only ArchFX Cloud Administrator users can enable or disable Lines and Areas. Other users can contact Arch Support to request that a Line or Area be enabled or disabled.
How does Arch track the enabled/disabled status of Lines and Areas?
Lines and Areas are enabled and disabled by a timestream of enable/disable events stored in Arch's timestream database. You use ArchFX Cloud to create new enable/disable events in that timestream database. These events overlay the factory model and influence how the Global KPIs Solution interprets the data. In the factory model, you may have defined a Line called "1A" in Juarez. But if you use ArchFX Cloud to create a "disable" event for Line 1A at a particular time, at that time, Line 1A will be disabled, the Global KPIs Solution will decrement the number of "LU Lines" for Juarez by 1, and Line 1A will no longer have its activity tracked or included in performance statistics.
How do I disable a Line?
- In ArchFX Cloud, open the Line.
- Click the "Enabled" button. That will take you to a Line Status page that shows the Line as currently Enabled, but has the Enabled checkbox unchecked so it's ready to add a "Disable Event" that will disable the line.
- Edit the Message field to indicate why you are disabling the Line so others will know, e.g. "Disabled for planned maintenance."
- From the Time pulldown menu, choose the Time at which you want the "Disable Event" to occur.
- If you want the Disable Event to occur now, leave the menu set to "Current Time."
- If you want to overwrite the metadata for the last entry in the stream of events (e.g. to correct a mistake), you choose "Overwrite last entry." Your new metadata (such as the Message and the Disabled status) will update the last entry at the last entry's existing timestamp.
- You can also choose "Enter an exact timestamp manually" to choose the time at which the event will take place. Make sure you enter the timestamp in the time zone that is shown on the page.
- Click the Add button to add a "Disable Event" and cause the line to become disabled.
How do I re-enable a Line?
- In ArchFX Cloud, open the Line.
- Click the "Disabled" button. That will take you to a Line Status page that shows the Line as currently Disabled, but has the Enabled checkbox checked so it's ready to add a "Enable Event" that will re-enable the line.
- Edit the Message field to indicate why you are enabling the Line so others will know, e.g. "Planned maintenance completed."
- From the Time pulldown menu, choose the Time at which you want the "Enable Event" to occur.
- If you want the Enable Event to occur now, leave the menu set to "Current Time."
- If you want to overwrite the metadata for the last entry in the stream of events (e.g. to correct a mistake), you choose "Overwrite last entry." Your new metadata (such as the Message and the Disabled status) will update the last entry at the last entry's existing timestamp.
- Click the Add button to add a "Enable Event" and cause the line to become enabled.
How do I disable an Area?
- In ArchFX Cloud, open the Area.
- Click the "Enabled" button. That will take you to an Area Status page that shows the Area as currently Enabled, but has the Enabled checkbox unchecked so it's ready to add a "Disable Event" that will disable the Area.
- Edit the Message field to indicate why you are disabling the Area so others will know, e.g.
- Click the Add button to add a "Disable Event" and cause the Area to become disabled.
How do I re-enable an Area?
- In ArchFX Cloud, open the Area.
- Click the "Disabled" button. That will take you to an Area Status page that shows the Area as currently Disabled, but has the Enabled checkbox checked so it's ready to add a "Enable Event" that will re-enable the Area.
- Edit the Message field to indicate why you are enabling the Area so others will know, e.g.
- Click the Add button to add a "Enable Event" and cause the Area to become enabled.
Why can't I disable an SMT Area?
You can disable containers that only contain Machines.
Mechanicals Areas contain Machines, not Lines, and can be disabled.
SMT Areas contain Lines, not Machines, so they can't be disabled. For SMT Organizations, disable Lines, not Areas. If you want to disable an entire Area in an SMT Organization, disable all the Lines in that Area.
