Metrics in GLO KPI Sets are defined in terms of "Factory Days."
- The Factory Day at a site begins on a calendar date at the time that day's first shift begins in the local time zone.
- The Factory Day at a site ends on the next calendar date at the time the day's first shift begins in the local time zone or whenever the last shift of the current day ends (whichever comes first)
- Shift schedules are defined within the ArchFX Cloud Schedule Tool.
Examples of Factory Days
Let's say that a site has the following shift schedule:
- Monday - Friday: first shift starts at 5:00 a.m.; three shifts of 8 hours each
- Saturday - Sunday: first shift starts at 9:00 a.m.; one shift of 8 hours
Factory Days are defined as follows:
- For Monday, the Factory Day runs from 5:00 a.m. on Monday to just before 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday because Tuesday's first shift begins at 5:00 a.m. (Tuesday - Thursday have their Factory Day's defined in the same way.)
- For Friday, the Factory Day runs from 5:00 a.m. on Friday to just before 5:00 a.m. on Saturday because Friday's last shift ends at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday.
- For Saturday, the Factory Day runs from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday to just before 8:00 a.m. on Sunday because Sunday's first shift starts at 8:00 a.m.
- For Sunday, the Factory Day runs from 8:00 a.m. on Sunday to just before 5:00 a.m. on Monday because Monday's first shift starts at 5:00 a.m.
How Daylight Savings Time affects Factory Days
Let's say that a factory in the United States has the following shift schedule:
- Monday - Sunday: three shifts starting at 5:00 a.m. daily
In the United States, time zone changes occur at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday local time.
In the spring, you move the clock forward by one hour at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March.
- The Factory Day for the second Saturday in March starts at 5:00 a.m. Standard Time. It runs through 5:00 a.m. Daylight Savings Time on Sunday. Because the clock was moved forward by one hour at 2:00 a.m. local time, Saturday's third shift is only seven hours long, so Saturday's Factory Day is only 23 hours long.
In the fall, you move the clock backward by one hour at 2:00 a.m. on on the first Sunday in November.
- The Factory Day for the first Saturday in November starts at 5:00 a.m. Daylight Savings Time. Saturday has three eight-hour shifts. So Saturday's Factory Day runs for 24 hours and ends at 4:00 a.m. Standard Time on Monday.
- Sunday's Factory Day begins at with the start of the first shift at 5:00 a.m. Standard Time. So one hour will be lost with no production unless the factory creates a variant schedule for that weekend where Saturday's last shift and/or Sunday's first shift are extended to cover the extra hour.
